October 30, 2009

(Washington, DC) – Yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives approved Congresswoman Suzanne Kosmas’ (FL-24) appropriations request of $500,000 for wastewater infrastructure improvements at the South Seminole and North Orange County Wastewater Transmission Authority. The funding will be used for the replacement of water pipes, force mains, and mechanical equipment approaching the end of their service lives.  The project involves the replacement and relocation of 6,200 feet of piping, which will help to avoid serious environmental hazards and maintain services.

“It is critical that we protect Central Florida’s water resources and ensure that our community has access to a safe and reliable water supply, and this investment will help maintain important water infrastructure,”
said Congresswoman Kosmas. “I will continue working to secure investments that will improve our communities while creating jobs and moving our economy forward.”

The funding, which was also requested by Congressman John Mica (FL-7)) and former Senator Mel Martinez (R-FL), was approved by the House as part of H.R. 2996, the Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2010 which passed by a vote of 420-0. The Conference Report is now awaiting action by the Senate.
